As I’m just back from the annual Ieperfest I must say that it was an amazing year, a very cool edition… I was thrilled about meeting that many new people again. It’s always cool when someone comes up to me and starts to talk about MAUDLIN, you’ll never get me bored with that… I love the band, I’m totally down with what we do, so I’m never done talking about it. So to all of you: thank you!!

Sorry for the fucked up Flemish speech inbetween the 2 songs. Normally I say nothing… but since we had troubles loading the samples we suddenly had an awkward silent moment. I tried to fill the gap, but realised too late that I was standing in front of an international public. Anyway, you didn’t miss a thing.

As some people who are following us for a while now may have noticed, Tim (keys, samples, some vocals) wasn’t with us. He was replaced by our good friend Maarten on the keys, while Ewould from SENSUAL NOISE helped us out with the backings.

Yesterday I had a hell of a ride… 4 hours in the car with an amazing playlist (Melvins - Houdini; Neurosis - Souls at zero; Cult of Luna - Somewhere along the highway; Weezer - the blue & red album, Bossk - II). In the middle of the ride I picked up our “ionesco” double LP and they looked amazing. 99 blue vinyls, 121 marble vinyls and offcourse also black vinyls. Available on day one of the annual Ieperfest.

I also picked up the KINGDOM (labelbuddies) lp’s, and they also looked sweet! Check them out if you are into AMENRA! For your information, 3 of the 5 AMENRA members form KINGDOM… if you didn’t knew that, I guess you’re getting psyched now.

The reason why BOSSK was in my playlist is because I found out they called it a day. We had the privelege and honour to tour with them and we must say it was fun and loud! Succes in future projects lads.

Anyway, when I arrived at the GENET homebase, we started packing the LP’s in the sleeves, they’ll come handnumbered! Ow yeah!! While packing the LP’s I had like 10 papercuts in half an hour. But that didn’t rejected me of being happy as a little child!! I mean, vinyl, how cool is that…

And it’s getting a tradition, everytime MAUDLIN plays Ieperfest, we need the help of our friend Maarten. This time he will help us out with keys, since Tim has broken his elbow on Sunrock, where the response was overwhelming by the way! I see some collectors thinking “ionesco double lp… colours??” of course, black ones and then also 2 different colours, we’ll post some pictures as soon as we have them in our hands! Getting psyched??

Okay, first the most important news, although for us: Kobe (Tim’s son) is doing fine, he is out of the hospital, still needs follow ups frequently, but this future rockstar is on the betterhand!

Sorry to the people who came to Geraardsbergen especially for us, we cancelled the show, for the above mentioned reason. Also an extra sorry to Sarah & JH Ressort. We will make this up to you!

We had the luck of seeing our good friends of TEPHRA performing on the annual skatefest in Blankenberge at the Offshore surfclub. As always, they rocked hard. In the future we might team up together again, ow yeah!

Reviews of our album “ionesco” are coming in slowly, but we’re stoked, because up to now we receive nothing then amazing words! As soon as we got some more reviews we’ll put them online.

Finally some sun in Belgium, but ours got overclouded by a very dark cloud. Tim’s son is in hospital with kidney-problems. This is all I know so far!

“They’re here!” Carol Anne Freeling announced the arrival of the Poltergeist.

And finally, so did our cd’s. We will start shipping the preorders as of today. You who didn’t preorder will be able to pick it up at our next shows or get in touch with us to get your copy through mail!

Summer’s knocking on our door… Surf’s up… Weezer released the red album… Major summerfestivals got amazing line-ups… Girls start wearing skirts again… Holland shows us how soccer should be played… The beach will be our summerhangout… Skimboards, surfboards, motorcycles, amps, guitars, drumset are being bought again… But despite of all those happymakers, we ain’t smiling. It’s for sure now, our ‘Ionesco’ album is cursed! After all the trouble during the recording process & the load of shit with the pressing plant we’ve been through. We thought it couldn’t become any worse. But hell, the end isn’t in sight yet. Again we need to blame the incompetent person whom we’re “working” with to press our cd’s. The next thing happened: We drove some hours to pick up the albums, arrived, saw that something was waiting for us. But instead of a relief it was a bummer, a fuck up, it was worse than Metallica’s Reload! And then you know it’s pretty bad. How bad? The wrong digipack, no booklet included,… We can only conclude that this pressing plant is fucking with us and you!! No names will be mentioned, because we’re planning to fight this over in court. Meanwhile, we have to apologize again towards you, we have to thank you for being so patient and we truly appreciate all of your support a lot. We’re still taking pré-orders. For the same price you’ll get the album posted and a patch and ’solitary echo’ poster will be added for free.

Back to the finer things in life, our 3rd European tour is in the making, we still need to get some dates confirmed and we need one more show (if everything gets confirmed)… but we can tell you that it is looking sweet! No need to tell you guys that we are charmed by any offer we get, and any show that we can play we will play, so get in touch here for bookings!

Seems likes our new album is cursed… after all troubles we faced during the recording it’s even getting worse. A fucked up pressing plant, vans that break down, bandmembers that suddenly need operations,…

So, sorry again to the people in Hannover who expected to see us the 2nd of May, our van broke down… we waited 3 hours, tried to find another van, but as it were holidays in Belgium, nothing was available. And as a 6 piece band we don’t fit in one car. We really hope we get a chance in the future to make this up!!

People who hoped to meet us in Gent 14th of May… sorry we have to cancel this show. Davy’s arm got dislocated, the day of his operation… yes indeed! But we strongly advise you to check out the show anyhow!! New breed ARCHIVIST will sunn0))) over you; as being Belgians & after the fuck ups of the pressing plant we’re not so keen on Dutch people (just joking), but hell they got great bands, check 5TH ALLIANCE; ow and to top things off FOREST YELL from Italy will play, check them out, you might like them! Entrance is cheap, the hangout will be cool, Davy will miss it!!

Welcome to the new MAUDLIN website. As you see we’ve chosen for a simple website. Just because we feel that it’s more important and way more fun to put time in our music than in this virtual part of life. 

Talking about our music… official release of our “IONESCO” full cd is scheduled on May 1st. We start with a very limited amount of cd’s that come in a nice digipack on the OFFERANDUM RECORDS label we run ourselves. So, if you’d like to catch this version of “IONESCO” do not doubt and order right here right now.

The official presentation of our “IONESCO” takes place in a castle of the city Heist-aan-Zee. Doors opening at 18h00. Guest performances by our friends in TRENCHFOOT & WE’RE WOLVES. Also an art exhibition is taking place. 9 artist will show the visitors an impression of “IONESCO”. Guess you don’t want to miss out on that! 

As soon as you unwrap your “IONESCO” you’ll notice it ain’t an ordinary album, but that there is a whole idea/concept behind it. There are lots of links between the artwork & the lyrics and between the next artwork in the next versions of the cd’s & lp’s that come out later. Here is a little introduction on our “IONESCO” story: 

On “IONESCO” we take you back to the era before psychiatric drugs, to the mid forties. Where Doctor Walter Freeman was convinced that he had found the cure for depressions. 
On January 17 he performed the first-ever transorbital or ‘ice pick’ lobotomy in his Washington, D.C. office. His patient was a severely depressed housewife named Sallie Ellen Ionesco. 
After rendering her unconscious through electroshock, Freeman inserted an ice pick above her eyeball, banged it through her eye socket into her brain, and then made cuts in her frontal lobes. When he was done, he sent her home in a taxi cab. 
Freeman was convinced he’d found the answer to Sallie Ellen Ionesco’s depression. He believed that mental illness was related to overactive emotions, and that by cutting the brain he could cut away those feelings.
